Our 2019 school wide summer reading goal is for each student to read at least six books during the summer to help prevent the "summer slide" in reading. Based on research conducted at George Mason University, reading just 6 books prevents the "summer slide." Project LIFT is a GREAT way to do that!
Working with CPES Reading Specialist Ms. Carper, students whose parents enroll them in the program or are sponsored by the generous CPES community, have the opportunity to select six new books to receive in the mail over the course of the summer. Who doesn't love receive packages in the mail?! In addition to receiving the books, each child receives a reading response journal they can use to capture their thoughts. Each child is then invited to share their log with Ms. Carper upon the start of the 2019-2020 school year, as well as participate in a summer reading celebration in September.
